Castalia s.r.l.

Castalia srl is a structural engineering company born in 1991.

This is one of the websites of Castalia srl. Other Castalia’s sites are:

The main activities of Castalia can be summarized in this way:

  • software development for structural engineering.
  • structural analysis consulting and validations, especially for steel structures and for seismic analyses.
  • research of new analysis methods and in depth study of the existing methods.
  • publication of papers and books.

Since 2018 Castalia has also started a collateral activity of 3D Printing and Virtualization.

Getting more into details…
  • Referring to software development, Castalia realized many analysis programs, using or not finite element techniques, with graphic interface. The most important are:
    • Sargon, 3D FEM modeling and checks according to several standards. Best fit for steel structures.
      • Linear static analyses.
      • Modal analyses.
      • Response spectrum analyses.
      • Non linear static analyses (geometric, material and contact non linearities).
      • Frequency response analyses.
      • Modal Time History.
      • Buckling analyses.
      • Beam elements, with or without eccentricities and semi-rigid joints, trusses (also no-tension and no-compression, or with friction), spring, membrane, thin and thick plate-shell, solids, special elements for bolts and welds.
      • CNR 10011, NTC, Eurocode 3, Eurocode 5, AISC ASD, AISC LRFD, BS.
    • CSE, steel connections (nodes) with generic layout: design, analysis and check. Linear and not linear range. FEM models or closed formulae.
    • CESCO, planar frames.
    • CESCO PLUS, a more powerful version of CESCO.
    • SICS, steel-racks checks.
    • SEVEN, evolution of the former.
    • PALLETPREV, design of steel-racks and budgeting.
    • CLASS4, classification according to Eurocode 3 of steel cross-sections.

  • Consulting, in more than 30 years, referred to civil, mechanical and naval structures, among which important cruise ships.
  • Research led to several original and innovative improvements, in the field of steel structures, seismic hazard and analyses, steel connections.
  • Seven books have been published, one with Thomas Telford (now ICE: Structural Analysis with Finite Elements) and one with Wiley (Steel Connection Analysis), in English. Besides, several papers have been published in International Peer Reviewed magazines. See the Publications page.
