Types of Joints

At the moment the following joint types are available:

The joints are coded by marks, that follow the rules here summarized.

The mark is always composed by three alphanumerical characters.

The first character refers to the typology of the jopint: beam-beam, beam-column, et cetera.

The second character refers to the connection system used (fin-plate, end-plate, angles, welds, et cetera).

The third character of the mark is used to distinguish marks otherwise equal.

The following tables list the letters used for the first two characters.

Second alphanumerical character of the mark

For instance, the following marks have the following meanings:

  • CE1: moment beam-column a momento with stiffened end-plate (first type)
  • Vh2: vertical bracing with bolted joint using web and flange plates, but no backing plates (second type)
  • GE1: moment ground base joint with stiffened end plate.
